Texas A&M may have come away with the win last week against UTSA, but it certainly wasn’t the dominant performance fans were hoping for. Now, the Aggies return to the friendly confines of Kyle Field with a chance to reset and refocus as they take on Utah State—a game they should win handily.

The offense had its moments in the opener, especially with KC Concepcion and Mario Craver making highlight-reel plays. Their explosiveness brought life to the unit, but the real storyline heading into this week is how the defense responds. Simply put, it needs to be better. UTSA was able to hang around far longer than expected, and that starts with a lack of urgency and cohesion on the defensive side of the ball.

This week’s matchup offers a valuable opportunity for the Aggies to tighten things up. Le’Veon Moss, who surprisingly only received three carries last game, is a player fans would love to see more involved. His physical running style and big-play potential could give the offense some much-needed balance.

Another name to watch is Marcel Reed. The talented young quarterback showed flashes, but fans are eager to see more of his passing ability on display. Against a Utah State defense that likely won’t offer as much resistance, Reed has a real chance to spread the ball around and develop more rhythm with his receivers.

This game is less about the final score and more about building chemistry and establishing consistency before the tougher part of the schedule kicks in. If the defense shows urgency, Moss gets more touches, and Reed continues to develop, Aggie fans should walk away from Kyle Field feeling much more confident about what’s ahead.

Time to clean things up and show what this team is really made of.
