The Phillies came out on top in a tightly contested pitchers’ duel on Wednesday night, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers to clinch the series victory. Both starting pitchers were sharp, but it was Philadelphia who capitalized late to secure the win.

Brewers ace Freddy Peralta was dominant early, striking out eight over five scoreless innings. Despite his effectiveness, the Phillies worked deep counts and drew three walks, driving up his pitch count and forcing an early exit after just five innings.

That turned out to be the turning point.

With Peralta out of the game, the Phillies struck in the top of the 7th inning. Trea Turner delivered a clutch RBI single to break the scoreless tie, giving Philadelphia a 1-0 lead that would hold until Bryson Stott gave the Phillies some insurance with an RBI double in the 9th.

On the mound for the Phillies, Ranger Suárez matched Peralta pitch for pitch. The lefty tossed six shutout innings with four strikeouts, keeping the Brewers off-balance all night.

Indeed, the Phillies bullpen was lights-out, allowing just one hit over the final three innings. Jhoan Duran slammed the door in the ninth with a perfect 1-2-3 inning, recording his 26th save of the season.

With the series win in hand, the Phillies now head to Miami to open a weekend set against the Marlins starting Friday.
