PHILADELPHIA — On a night where pitching reigned supreme, Phillies ace and Cy Young contender Cristopher Sánchez continued his dominant 2025 campaign. The left-hander went 7 innings, surrendering just 1 earned run and piling up 8 strikeouts, keeping his team in the game and his Cy Young hopes alive.
Offensively, though, the Phillies struggled to get anything going. MVP candidate Kyle Schwarber had a rare off night, going 0-for-4 and leaving five runners stranded, unable to provide the spark fans have come to expect from him.
The opposing pitcher — a veteran and future Hall of Famer returning from injury — was lights out in his own right. He tossed 6 innings of 1-run ball, striking out 9 Phillies and neutralizing the heart of the order.
With the game locked at 1-1, the tension hit its peak in the bottom of the 10th. The Phillies loaded the bases with one out after Nick Castellanos was hit by a pitch and Bryson Stott delivered a clutch pinch-hit single. That brought Brandon Marsh to the plate with the game on the line — but Marsh struck out, leaving the Phillies down to their final out.
Enter Trea Turner.
The star shortstop didn’t blink under pressure, roping a walk-off 2-run single to left field to lift the Phillies to a thrilling 3-1 victory. Turner was mobbed by teammates as the crowd at Citizens Bank Park erupted in celebration.
With another series win secured, the Phillies now look to complete the sweep tomorrow and continue their push toward October with momentum fully on their side.
