Jesus Luzardo took the mound against his former team today and delivered a solid outing. The left-hander went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out 8. Though he issued 4 walks—which pushed his pitch count to 100—he managed to limit the damage and keep his team in control.
The Phillies offense got started early, with Bryce Harper launching a two-run homer in the top of the first off former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara. In the 4th inning, Harrison Bader added an RBI single to stretch the lead to 3-0. Bader has proven to be a valuable offensive addition since joining the Phillies at the trade deadline.
Brandon Marsh also continued his strong form at the plate, going 2-for-4 with both hits being doubles.
The Phillies bullpen took over in the 7th and handled the rest. Jhoan Duran came on in the 9th to close it out and did so in dominant fashion. He needed just four pitches to retire the first two batters, then struck out the third to secure his 27th save of the season and a 4-2 Phillies win.
The Phillies will look to complete the sweep tomorrow.
