PHILADELPHIA — The Phillies were silenced once again Thursday night, falling 6–0 to the Mets and getting swept in the three-game series. Rookie pitcher Nolan McLean was the story of the night, tossing eight shutout innings in a dominant performance that showcased just how dangerous the Mets could be in October.

Despite still trailing the Phillies by four games in the NL East, New York’s sweep sends a strong message as the postseason looms. The Mets held Phillies slugger and MVP frontrunner Kyle Schwarber hitless in the series—extending his hitless streak to 20 at-bats.

To make matters worse for Philly, ace Zack Wheeler has been shut down for the season, putting even more pressure on an offense that has suddenly gone cold. If the Phillies want to make another run at a World Series title, their bats will need to heat up—and fast.
