The Lions were defeated on the road 30-17 at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Lions led 10-6 in the second quarter, but after a dropped pass by Amon-Ra St. Brown on 4th down, the Chiefs took a 13-10 lead going into the half and the Lions never regained the lead.
The offensive play-calling once again looked stale in the same way it did against the Packers in week one. There were multiple times where the Lions ran right into a three linebacker base defense on first down instead of using play action which they are better at than any team in the NFL. The Lions also looked extremely tired defensively in the second half due to the offense consistently stalling and being forced to punt.
Detroit’s run game wasn’t as effective as usual, only averaging 4.3 yards per carry and becoming irrelevant once the Lions were down by multiple scores in the third quarter. The Lions also committed four crucial penalties which either pushed the Lions offense back or extended drives for the Chiefs.
The Lions host the 5-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Monday night in a game in which they are favored by 4.5 points. It’s crucial for the Lions to return to form and get an extremely important win over the current number one seed in the NFC.
