PHILADELPHIA — Ranger Suárez delivered a gem on the mound today, leading the Phillies to a dominant 9-3 win over the New York Mets. Suárez was nearly untouchable, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out 12 batters. His masterful performance continues a stellar season and further cements his role as one of the anchors of this Phillies rotation.
The offense came to life behind him, launching three home runs in the victory. Kyle Schwarber blasted his 50th homer of the season. He now joins Ryan Howard as the only two Phillies in history to achieve the 50 HR milestone. Howard had 58 will Schwarber catch him? Harrison Bader stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a home run out of the leadoff spot. Bryson Stott, a fan favorite whose resurgence has been a bright spot, went 3-for-4 and raised his batting average to .255.
With the win, the Phillies now hold a commanding 9-game lead in the NL East and need just nine more victories to clinch the division.
