Sad news for baseball fans: Hall of Famer and Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw has announced that he will retire at the end of the season.

Kershaw, 37, has spent his entire 18-year career with the Dodgers after being selected in the first round of the 2006 MLB Draft. Over nearly two decades, he has become one of the most dominant pitchers of his era — and one of the greatest in baseball history.

By the numbers, Kershaw’s career 2.54 ERA would rank 25th all-time among qualified pitchers (pending the outcome of his final two starts). He joined the 3,000-strikeout club in July, becoming just the 20th pitcher ever to do so, and is one of only three active pitchers to reach 200 career wins.

His accolades include:

  • 3 Cy Young Awards
  • 1 MVP Award
  • 2 World Series titles

Kershaw’s final regular season start is scheduled for this Friday at Dodger Stadium, and fans are hoping the Dodgers can send him off with one more championship.
