The Dodgers fell to the Giants 5-1 in the 11th inning, wasting an incredible performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He pitched a gem, going 7 innings, allowing just 1 hit and 1 run while racking up 10 strikeouts.

Despite his dominance, the Dodgers’ offense couldn’t get much going, managing just 4 hits all night. Future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander shut them down, looking vintage on the mound. The Dodgers’ only run came from a Michael Conforto solo homer.

Fast forward to extras — Blake Treinen came in and got one out, then walked the next batter. Tanner Scott took over and, in a questionable move, intentionally walked Casey Schmitt (who was 0-for-3) to load the bases. Patrick Bailey came up and on the second pitch launched a walk-off grand slam to left-center, giving the Giants the 5-1 win.

Lackluster offense and poor late-game decisions ultimately wasted Yamamoto’s brilliant outing.
