The Lions beat the Bengals 37-24 in Cincinnati on Sunday, marking their fourth straight game scoring 34 or more points and breaking a franchise record for points scored through the first five games of a season with 174.
The Lions offensive line struggled as they only averaged 3.6 yards per carry on the ground and Jared Goff was sacked 4 times, also enduring 7 QB hits. The Lions’ offensive line continues to be inconsistent from week to week which is concerning. However, Jared Goff was extremely efficient when given time, completing 19 of 23 passes for 258 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sam LaPorta also had his best game of the year as he hauled in 5 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown.
The Lions’ defense held the Bengals’ offense to 3 points for the first three quarters, but as the game went on, the Bengals caught fire and rattled off three straight touchdown drives to bring their total to 24 points. The Lions also suffered another injury in the secondary as Terrion Arnold went down for the second straight week. Dan Campebell confirmed that Terrion Arnold and DJ Reed will miss significant time with their injuries which will cause trouble for the Lions defense.
The Lions head to Kansas City next week to take on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Jared Goff is 2-0 vs Mahomes and the Chiefs in his career and has a chance to improve that record to 3-0 on Sunday Night Football next week.
