This Saturday, USC football returns to the Coliseum as the Trojans host Missouri State in what promises to be the beginning of an exciting and potentially statement-making season. With high expectations and a revamped roster, fans have plenty to look forward to beyond the headline names.

Much of the national attention has focused on star receivers Jakobi Lane and Makai Lemon, both projected first-round NFL Draft picks. But for those looking deeper, there’s a wealth of talent ready to break out in Week 1 and beyond.

Offensively, keep your eyes on transfer running back Eli Sanders, who quietly put up 1,063 yards and 9 touchdowns on 147 carries last season. Sanders brings a physical, yet elusive presence to the backfield and could be a difference-maker in this opener and throughout the season.

On the defensive side, USC is stacked with emerging stars who could help reshape the narrative around the Trojans’ defense. Leading the charge is Kamari Ramsey, a hard-hitting free safety and Los Angeles native poised for a breakout campaign. With the range, instincts, and leadership to command the secondary, Ramsey could become a surprise first-round candidate by year’s end.

Devan Thompkins, the disruptive defensive tackle, is another name to know. He’s expected to anchor the defensive front and could become a force against both the run and pass as he steps into a larger role.

And don’t forget Eric Gentry—one of the most underrated players in the country. The rangy linebacker was limited to just five games last year due to redshirting after multiple concussions, but when healthy, Gentry has shown flashes of elite talent. If he can stay on the field, he could be one of USC’s most important defenders this season.

USC’s defense, long a question mark in recent years, now looks like a unit ready to turn heads—starting this weekend.

With fresh energy, under-the-radar talent, and future stars in the making, Saturday’s matchup against Missouri State is more than just Week 1—it’s the first look at a USC team that could be destined for something special.
